Webster Anthony Jefferson (Tony) was born in Greene County, Virginia, on December 18, 1946, to the late Roy and Geraldine B. Jefferson. He attended the public school system there and graduated from William Monroe High School, Stanardsville, Virginia, in 1966. His senior class was the first desegregated, graduating class in Greene County. Shortly after, he entered the United States Armed Services and completed that service with an Honorable Discharge in 1968. His service with the U.S. Army was during the Vietnam War era. He returned home to Greene County, Virginia, but later decided to relocate to Washington, D.C.
Once in Washington, D.C., Tony obtained employment with the Veterans Administration Headquarters for a few years. While employed with the Veterans Administration, he furthered his education, studying electrical engineering, completing all study requirements and obtaining his certifications. Sometime later, he obtained employment with the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority in Washington, D.C. He retired from the Water Authority after 30 years of service. After his retirement, he returned to Greene County, Virginia.
Tony was very sociable, energetic and lively. He connected easily with family, friends and strangers. There was always plenty of smiles and laughter when he was present. He had an infectious smile and a strong, impactful presence. Tony found his joy and happiness and his spiritual faith when he joined the Amicus Seventh-day Adventist Church, Rochelle, Virginia. He loved planting his gardens each year, sharing the veggies with family, friends and neighbors. Traveling was very important to him too. There were lots of road trips with family and friends and hiking adventures with his church family. He was quite the fisherman, taking excursions, sometimes to different states. Tony would want us to know: When the tomorrows come without him, don't think he is far away. Each time we think of him, he is right here, in our hearts.
Webster was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Geraldine B. Jefferson; five siblings, Hugh F. Jackson, Delores A. Beasley, Clarence L. Williams, Jerome Jefferson, and Debra J. Jefferson.
He leaves to cherish the precious memories of his life, his son, Anthony R. Jefferson and granddaughter, Michelle Jefferson; his brother, Joseph L. Jefferson; his sisters, Joann F. Jefferson, Judith M. Jefferson, and Brenda C. Jefferson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, his church family, and friends.
