Wanita Mae Martin, 74, of Ruckersville, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 9, 2022, in her home surrounded by those she loved. She was born on May 17, 1948, to Walter and Ethel Johnson, in a small Vermont village. Later, she moved south and spent most of her adult years in Virginia where she made her home, raised her family, and spent her career as a professional tile setter. Wanita had a strong faith in God, leaning on him throughout her life and knowing that she had a pain-free life waiting for her beyond this earth. As a single mom and grandmother, she was very devoted to her family and extremely proud of their accomplishments. "Family First" was not just a motto, but she lived this with every fiber of her being. She is survived by her loving companion of 36 years, Charles L Hodges, whom she enjoyed many activities with, at church, in the community, and at home creating her dream rose gardens for all the birds to enjoy. She is also survived by her daughters, Glorymae Martin, with whom she made her home for the last several years, and Lisa Rollins of Orange, VA. She leaves behind her grandchildren Alexis (Kenley), Alison, Javon, and Kyiesha; three great-grandchildren, Blaze, Bleu, and Promyse; and siblings, Gwendolyn, Madolyn, Bert, Clayton, Edna, Victoro, and Nino. Blood does not always make you family, and her unconditional love for Henry (Kit) Martin proves that. Her friendships with Bill McGowen, and countless daycare "families" further prove that no matter how we start our journey, it's what we choose to make of it along the way. She has been reunited in heaven with her son Robert Martin, her parents, and siblings Carl, Roy, and Ethel. The family will have a Celebration of Life service at Open Door Baptist Church in Culpeper, VA on Saturday, January 7, 2023 (a time to be announced in the coming days). In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter. Wanita had a strong bond with her fur-babies and would want all animals to have a loving home. "Even on our best days, we are nothing more than sinners saved by grace." An online guestbook is available at www.compassionatecremationva.com Compassionate Cremation Services of Ruckersville, VA is handling the arrangements.
