Timothy Auman Cope

March 22, 1950 — March 17, 2026

Gainesville, VA

Timothy Auman Cope, 75, of Gainesville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Born in Arlington, Virginia, Tim was one of nine children in a close-knit family that lovingly knew him as “Timmy.” From an early age, he brought joy and laughter into the home—a gift he carried throughout his life and shared generously with all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his sister, Susan, and is survived by his siblings Mary, Patty, Sally, Jerry, Kevin, Chris, and Tommy.

Tim earned his Bachelor of Arts from Wheeling Jesuit University and his Juris Doctor from the University of South Dakota. He practiced law in Virginia for over 50 years, earning a reputation marked by integrity, fairness, and deep care for others. As Commissioner of Accounts for Prince William County, he was respected for his expertise and steady judgment. Throughout his career, he helped countless individuals and families with their estates and wills.

A devoted Catholic, Tim attended Mass faithfully and lived out his faith in both word and action. He was known as a hard worker, often rising before 6:00 a.m., and approaching each day with discipline and purpose.

Tim loved life’s simple joys. He was an avid reader with a passion for history and enjoyed pheasant hunting. His warm personality and sense of humor drew people in, and his children’s friends loved him as much as his own family did. He rarely said goodbye, instead offering a cheerful “so long.”

Above all, Tim was devoted to his family. He shared 50 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Karen Cope. He was a proud father to Ryan Cope (Melinda) and Jeny Adamos (Lee), and a cherished grandfather to Lawson, Evan, and Hudson Cope, and Ariston Adamos. He also held a special place in his heart for Susan Miles, who became like a third child to him.

Tim will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his integrity and generosity, and his ability to bring joy and laughter to others.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Gainesville, Virginia, on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
