Thomas Branson Lincoln, a devoted husband, father, land surveyor, and courageous Parkinson’s Disease advocate, passed away on November 11, 2025, at the age of 76, surrounded by his family, following a fourteen-year journey with Parkinson’s Disease.
Born February 1, 1949, in Upper Montclair, New Jersey, Tom grew up with a love of precision and a deep sense of compassion. He graduated from St. Paul’s School in Concord, NH, in 1967 and earned a degree in Art History from the University of Virginia in 1971, where he was part of the revival of the UVA Men’s Rowing Team. Though trained in the arts, Tom found his calling in land surveying.
In 1987, he founded what is now Lincoln Surveying, building the company on integrity, innovation, and ingenuity. He served as president until retiring in 2020 and took great pride in the firm’s contributions to the Charlottesville community, including the renovation of the Monticello Visitors Center. For Tom, surveying was about more than property lines—it was about stewardship, service, and doing things the right way.
Tom was actively involved in the community, enjoying golf at Farmington Country Club and volunteering with the Charlottesville High School Band Boosters, Buford Band, Walker School Band, Greenbrier Elementary School, and SOCA. He was known for his quick wit, captivating stories, thoughtful listening, and gentle wisdom.
After his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2011, Tom met the disease with determination and grace. He was an active participant in various clinical trials at both UVA Neurology and VCU Neurology in hopes to improve not only his journey with the disease but also hopefully to help those in the future. In recent years, alongside his wife Maryann and daughter Sarah, he was the inspiration and driving factor in creating The Parkinson’s Activity and Resource Center (PARC) in Charlottesville—a nonprofit dedicated to connection, support, and hope for families affected by Parkinson’s.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruth Lincoln; his sisters, Louise Jordan and Susan Lincoln; and his youngest son, Andrew. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Maryann; his son, John (Stephanie, and stepdaughter Morgan) of Roanoke, VA; his daughters, Catherine “Kate” of Saugus, MA, and Sarah of Charlottesville, VA.
Tom will be remembered not for the boundaries he measured, but for the love he expanded—the lives he uplifted, the hope he inspired, and the kindness he shared until the very end.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Matthew Barrett at VCU, as well as the teams at Home Instead and Hospice of the Piedmont, for their compassionate care over the last few years.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 12:30pm at Glenmore Country Club. This event will be held in-person and virtual. If you plan to attend either in-person or virtual, please let us know by R.S.V.Ping here.
