Sandra Sue Scruggs of Earlysville, VA passed away at home surrounded by family on June 22, 2023. Sandi was born June 27, 1953, to the late Roderick Scruggs and Dreama Chambers in Washington DC. We all knew Sandi as a wonderfully witty, intelligent, analytical, and kind woman with an impressive array of talents and interests. As a young woman, Sandi excelled academically and was a marching band flautist, cheerleader, gymnast, skater, and everyone's favorite babysitter. As an adult, she was a professional student and worked in organizational psychology, banking, and business industries. She graduated with a BA Psychology and MA Industrial/Organizational Psychology from George Mason University, though that was only the beginning of her education. Early on, Sandi amassed an impressive array of graduate work in statistics, biology, neurology, education, sociology, literature, and then forayed into business, real estate, and criminology later in life. Sandi had a great love of music, and her taste was ever expanding as various influences flowed into her life, including Frankie Valli, Rachmaninoff, Seal, The Mamas and Papas, Santana, and beyond. Upon discovering a new favorite song, she would undoubtedly loop it hundreds (or perhaps thousands) of times in delight. Sandi was a bibliophile and voracious reader, always educating herself and others on an impressive array of topics. Her reading list was ever expanding in unexpected directions: psychology, neurology, geology, education, anthropology, childhood development, history, biographies, business, animals, and beyond. Sandi was a true lifelong learner, with a great enthusiasm and respect for education of all forms. Aside from sharing what she learned in her career as a professional student, she was always eager to hear what others were learning, and everyone's biggest personal cheerleader in pursuing education. Her intense curiosity and passion for learning inspired her to learn about the world and took all of us along with her. Above all, Sandi was most beloved for her amazing personality and sense of humor. She could always be counted on to add delightful humor to even the most mundane moment, with shared laughter as a primary goal for any discussion. Despite her introversion, Sandi loved talking to people and those closest to her were fortunate to log hundreds of hours in engrossing, hilarious, and enlightening discussion with her over the years. She was a delightful conversationalist and connected with a variety of personalities, driven by her authentic curiosity and desire to learn about others. Psychology was a lifelong passion, and Sandi had an amazing ability to understand people and social dynamics. She was an indispensable resource as our favorite psychologist, counseling close family and friends with compassionate validation, sound logic, and a twist of humor. Sandi frequently expressed that one of her core life joys was helping people, and it showed in the time and care she shared with those closest to her. She is deeply missed. Amongst the many family members and friends with fond memories of her, Sandi is survived by her daughters, Brie Janet and Shana Kerey; her brothers, Randy Scruggs and Ron Scruggs; sisters-in-law, Robin Scruggs and Helen Scruggs; granddaughters Lyra Grewal, Jadeh Durham, and Lexi Kerey; nephew and nieces Chris Scruggs, Jess Scruggs, Sierra Silva, and Savannah Scruggs; and best friend Bob Clark.
