Roy Thomas Dunn

Roy Thomas Dunn of Charlottesville passed away on December 11, 2025. Born in Free Union, Virginia, Roy was the beloved son of the late Orlando Columbus Dunn Sr. and Bernice Wood Dunn.

Roy is survived by his two children, Tracy Fitzgerald (Billy) and Sherrie Woodson (Shawn); his sister, Betty Bailey; as well as his brother, Donnie Dunn. He was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his two brothers, Orlando Columbus Dunn Jr. and Clifford Dunn; as well as his sister, Marion Williams.

Roy was a master electrician who took immense pride in his work. As the owner of R.D. Electric for over 40 years, he built his reputation on dedication, honesty, and the unwavering belief that you should never miss a day of work. He faced life with a “tell-it-like-it-is” attitude, a stubborn streak that made him uniquely Roy, and a quiet love for his family that showed through in his own unmistakable way.

Roy had a love for life and simple joys. He loved trains and had a special fondness for Christmas, singing Christmas songs all year-round. He enjoyed trips to Virginia Beach, and his sharp wit, smart mouth, and unmistakable voice made his presence known wherever he went.

Roy also had a habit of calling his children ten times a day—sometimes to check in, sometimes just to fuss—but always with love behind it.

Per Roy’s wishes, there will be no service. A celebration of life will take place for the family at a later date.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the Hospice House of Piedmont for the kind and compassionate care they provided during his final days.
