Robert Dale Sloan

May 3, 1958 — Jun 25, 2026

Charlottesville, Virginia

Robert Dale Sloan, 68, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 25, 2026. Born on May 3, 1958, in Charlottesville, Virginia, Dale was a lifelong Charlottesvillian whose greatest joys were found in family, friendships, good food, and bringing people together.

He attended Charlottesville City Schools and graduated from Charlottesville High School in 1976, where he excelled in athletics. In addition to basketball, he was an All-American in both track and football. Dale earned a full athletic scholarship to the University of Virginia for football, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1980.

Dale, also known to many as “Tiny,” never met a stranger. He served his community as a fry cook for many years working at Sloan's Restaurant alongside his brother and father and of course his time behind the counter at the Korner Restaurant, where his passion for food was matched only by his love of connecting with people. Whether sharing a meal, telling stories, or making someone laugh, Dale had a gift for bringing life to the party.

A devoted football fan, Dale proudly supported the Virginia Cavaliers throughout his life. Win or lose, he cheered with loyalty and enthusiasm, and watching the game always meant a little more when Dale was in the room.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Mac and Barbara Sloan.

He is survived by his brother, David Sloan and his wife, Kim; his three beloved nieces; and many cherished cousins, extended family and lifelong friends, all of whom will remember his dedication, laughter, and the excitement he brought into their lives.

A memorial celebration will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to SAFE Project (Stop the Addiction Fatality Epidemic), a nonprofit organization dedicated to prevention, support, and providing resources to individuals, families, and communities affected by addiction. Donations may be made through the organization's website- LINK.

Dale’s greatest legacy is the love he shared so freely with others. He will be deeply missed, remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who knew him.
