Robert Finno, affectionately known as Bobby, 84, of Stanardsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at The Harbor at Renaissance of Greene. He was born on December 14, 1941, in New York, New York, to the late Ralph and Helen Finno.

Bobby spent his early years in Brooklyn, New York. Following his military service in the United States Army and his marriage, he moved to Queens, New York, while spending much time in Kingston, New York, surrounded by extended family. Later in life, Bobby made his home on Long Island before eventually moving to Stanardsville, Virginia, where he lived with his eldest daughter and her family.

Bobby was a talented and creative man who excelled in art, fine carpentry, woodworking, and construction. After graduating from high school and completing his military service, he began a 25-year career as a New York City firefighter. His skilled hands and creative mind were evident in everything he built, often creating custom pieces for the people and animals he loved.

Bobby had a special love for animals, especially dogs. Throughout his life, he was a devoted pet owner and seemed to have a natural ability to make even the most skittish dog an instant friend. His calm, gentle, and loving nature extended to all animals. While living on Long Island, he delighted his grandchildren by befriending the neighborhood squirrels and deer as well.

When Bobby wasn't busy building something, whether it was a custom bed set for his children or a special feeding station for his dogs—he enjoyed watching football, relaxing with his family, and visiting extended family in upstate New York. Above all, Bobby treasured the simple moments spent with the people and animals he loved.

Bobby will be deeply missed by his daughters, Ariel Barrett-Finno and Jessica Finno.

In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved son, David Robert Finno.

His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, who will remember him for his gentle spirit, creative hands, love of animals, and the many things he built—not only with wood, but with love for those around him.

Compassionate Cremation Services of Ruckersville, Virginia is honored to serve the Finno family.
