Robert Matthew Chipperfield, 57, of Palmyra, VA, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the Hospice of the Piedmont Center for Acute Hospice Care. Born on January 18, 1968, in Goleta, CA, to Norman Robert and Mary Margaret Chipperfield. Rob's journey through life was marked by a deep love for family, adventure, and the water. Although a Southern California boy at heart, Rob's family moved to Anchorage, AK, shortly after his birth, and it was there that he fondly recalled his early years. The family later returned to Ventura, CA, where Rob's love for the ocean grew. As a child, Rob became a Junior Lifeguard, and in his teens and young adulthood, he developed a passion for surfing and all things water-related. His favorite memories were spent at Lake Nacimiento, where he loved water skiing and spending time with family and friends at "The Cabin." Rob's pursuit of education led him to California Lutheran University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in 1991, though he always managed to find time for his beloved water sports. It was on the delta waterways of Discovery Bay, CA, where Rob met his future wife, Marcia. He asked her if she'd like to go on a boat ride and they bonded over their shared love for water sports, with Rob teaching Marcia how to slalom ski and wakeboard. Their midnight cruises on the water sparked an eternal love. Over the years, Rob became widely known for his unwavering dedication to his family, especially his beloved role as a "soccer dad." He spent countless hours driving his daughters, Sydney and Addison, up and down the Mid-Atlantic, always supporting their passion for travel soccer, followed by cross country and track. Rob was at his happiest when he was proudly bragging about their achievements and sharing stories of their success. He skillfully balanced his family life with a successful career as a sales representative in wholesale distribution. Rob's outgoing personality and natural ability to connect with people made him a master networker-traits that were quintessentially Chipperfield. Whether talking to a stranger or catching up with an old friend, Rob had a way of making everyone feel welcome and valued. Rob's devotion to his family was unwavering and evident in all aspects of his life. He leaves behind his loving wife of 23 years, Marcia Marie Chipperfield, and their two daughters, Sydney Jane Chipperfield and Addison Grace Chipperfield, of Palmyra, VA. He is also survived by his parents, Norman Robert and Mary Margaret Chipperfield of Maryville, TN; and brothers, Mike Chipperfield (Eve) of Alpine, CA, and Mark Chipperfield (Samantha) of Maryville, TN.
