Richard Eldon Hollis, 91, of Ruckersville, VA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at his home. He was born on December 27, 1931, in Richmond, VA to the late Virgil Henry Hollis and Margaret Welford Hall. Dick enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1954 and retired from active duty in 1977. He served in Minot AFB, North Dakota; the US Embassy in Ottawa, Canada, where he met his bride; Otis AFB, Massachusetts; Stewart AFB, New York; RAF Lakenheath, UK; Whiteman AFB, Missouri; AFCENT in Brunssum, the Netherlands; and finally, Hancock Field, New York. After he retired from active duty, he went to work for the Air Force, finally retiring in 1996, dedicating a lifetime in the service to his country. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Ella Carmel (nee. Legroulx) Hollis; his children, Richard H. Hollis, Steven L. Hollis (Amy), and Theresa H. Perez (Dennis); his grandchildren, Kristina L. Machai (Jane), Allie Perez, Richard L. Hollis, Morgan O. Hollis, and Philip T. Hollis; and his brother, Virgil "Skip" Hollis, Jr. (Diane). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Welford Hall Hollis. A private service may be announced at a later date.
