It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Richard Frank Cortese on Sunday, April 20, 2025. He was 78 years old. Rick was born on February 16, 1947, in Philadelphia, to Frank Cortese, Jr. (Commander, USN Retired) and Rosalie Gainer Cortese. Alongside his brother Bill, Rick spent most of his childhood in El Cerrito, California. He graduated from Harry Els High School in 1964 and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1968. Following college, Rick proudly served his country in the United States Army. Rick began a long and distinguished career with Xerox Corporation, holding various sales and management positions across California, Arizona, and Oregon. He later became a leader in the information services and technology sectors, most notably serving as President and CEO of Experian Information Services. Rick's presence was often felt to be larger than life. Those closest to him knew he would do anything he could-big or small-to lift them up. His generosity, loyalty, and steadfast support will be cherished for years to come. While Rick's family, friends and career were always his top priorities, he also made time for the things he loved: traveling the world, passionately supporting the San Francisco 49ers-and sports in general-and, most of all, playing golf. Rick is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Susan Cortese; his children, Vince Cortese (Jessica), Kasey Cortese Becerra (Simon), and stepson Hank Morrison; his brother, Bill Cortese; and his cherished grandchildren, Joey, Marco, Max, Niko, and Lucia. He is also fondly remembered by his godchildren, Bob Camp and Katie Camp Slaughter, along with countless friends and colleagues who admired his wisdom, warmth, and leadership. Though his passing leaves a profound void, Rick's spirit, kindness, and humor will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know and love him. Services for Mr. Cortese will be private.
