Richard Lee Chamberlain, also known as "Rabbit" to his close friends, 59, of Charlottesville, VA, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at his residence. He was born in Louisa, VA on February 2, 1966. Richard was a man of the mountains, drawn to the peace and quiet only nature could offer. He loved the outdoors, whether surrounded by trees or traveling to new places, his soul was always seeking the beauty and stillness of the world. He often called himself a "traveling gypsy," with a heart full of stories and a spirit always ready for the next adventure. A self-employed tree worker for over 30 years, Richard poured his strength and dedication into a career he truly loved. Later in life, he partnered with his best friend, Fred Wilson, sharing not only the workload but a deep bond rooted in trust and friendship. His work wasn't just a job, it was a calling that reflected his connection to the land. Richard was known by all as one of the most giving, compassionate people you'd ever meet. He had the biggest heart, a generosity that knew no bounds, and would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. He could talk to anyone, make them feel seen and heard, and would go out of his way to help anyone in need. That kind of kindness left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. Despite life's challenges, Richard held fast to his faith and cherished his family deeply. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy, the lights of his life. A true believer in God, he leaned into his faith through every high and low, never losing sight of what truly mattered. Richard's legacy is one of love, strength, adventure, and selfless compassion. He will be remembered not only for the life he lived, but for the hearts he touched along the way. He is survived by his children, Cortney Saylor McKee and her husband Tyler, Tara Chamberlain, Braxton Chamberlain, and Ashley Chamberlain; nine grandchildren; one great grandson on the way; his beloved cat, Nugget; and extended family and friends.
