Peter Gordon McAllen November 24, 1950 - August 10, 2025 Peter Gordon McAllen was born in Evanston, Illinois and grew up in Glencoe, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. McAllen and Patricia Phillips McAllen; and by his brothers, John Beatty McAllen, and Robert William McAllen. Peter is survived by his loving wife, Maureen Morgan, of Charlottesville, VA; and their daughter, Megan Patricia McAllen (Tyler Brown) of Washington, DC. He is further survived by his sister, Elizabeth (Betsy) McAllen Matz (Eric) of Hunt TX and Boulder Junction, WI; his nephew, Michael Gordon Matz (Marisa); his niece, Emily Matz Corbin (Brandon); and by a niece, 3 nephews, and numerous cousins. Peter graduated from New Trier East High School in Winneka, IL in 1968. He earned a varsity letter swimming backstroke on the illustrious NewTrier swim team. He was the Harbor Master at Glencoe Beach, taught sailing, and enjoyed outdoor activities, including camping, biking, canoeing in the Quetico, and backpacking, especially with his daughter, Megan. Peter followed in his father's footsteps and attended Princeton University, graduating in 1972 with a degree in Philosophy. He then enrolled in the Philosophy program at UCLA. While writing his dissertation he was accepted into UCLA School of Law, where he earned his JD in 1981. Peter met the love of his life, Maureen Morgan, while they were both working on PhD's at UCLA. They married in 1978, and have one daughter, Megan. Peter began his legal career as a law clerk to Judge Warren Ferguson on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Peter intertwined commercial law with a love of teaching. He practiced law in Chicago and Los Angeles. He was a partner at Jones Day. He taught law at Southern Illinois University, and Southwestern University. He retired from practice in 2014. Later in his life, Peter dealt with multiple health issues. He carried on with courage and fortitude. He is remembered by friends for his decency, kindness, brilliance, and humor. He was a beloved husband and father, brother and uncle.
