Nicholas Dominic Sica, beloved nurse, mentor, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2025, at the Hospice of the Piedmont Center for Acute Hospice Care in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was 69 years old. Born on August 21, 1955, in Miami, Florida, Nicholas was the son of the late Nicholas A. Sica and Jeanine Y. Sica (Lipartia). He dedicated his life to service, compassion, and personal growth -qualities that defined his years as an Attendent Specialist which led to a 35-year career as a registered nurse. Whether comforting patients in moments of crisis or mentoring new nurses, Nicholas brought deep empathy and professionalism to every encounter. Nicholas was first diagnosed with prostate cancer 18 years ago and faced the disease with characteristic courage and resilience. He experienced seven years of remission and lived each day with purpose, strength, and grace. A man of great personal strength and conviction, Nicholas celebrated more than 40 years of sobriety and was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous, offering encouragement and support to countless individuals on their journeys to recovery. His dedication to community was also evident in his years as a volunteer EMT with the Greene County Rescue Squad. Faith played a central role in Nicholas's life. He was a devoted member of Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church, where his warm voice was a cherished part of the church choir. Nicholas was deeply curious and intellectually engaged. He had a lifelong passion for learning languages and spent many hours studying Russian, Ukrainian, Gaelic, and Italian. He was fluent in French and took great joy in connecting with others through language and culture. He enjoyed traveling to France to reconnect with his family there, as well as other destinations with friends or by himself. Outside of his professional and spiritual life, Nicholas found joy in the simple pleasures. He was an avid gardener who took pride in nurturing life from the soil. A longtime weightlifting enthusiast, he was a familiar and friendly presence at Anytime Fitness in Ruckersville, where he trained faithfully for over 30 years. Nicholas is survived by 2 brothers, Eric W. Sica and wife Cynthia of Snow Hill Md, Andre L. Sica and wife Meri of Fairfax Va and a sister Valdy J. Sica of Fairfax Va; 3 nephews, William J. Sica and wife Koren of Luray Va, Caleb E. Sica of Manhatten NY, Josh E. Sica of Fairfax Va. a niece Erin A. Anello and husband Daniel of Quakertown Pa; a Godchild, Anna Kopko Rodriguez as well as many friends, colleagues, and members of the communities he touched so deeply. His quiet strength, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to others will be remembered always. Nicholas's quiet strength, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his many friends, colleagues, and the community he served so selflessly. A memorial Mass will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church, Ruckersville Va on May 17 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a local recovery support organization or hospice care facility of your choice. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the light and love he shared so freely in life.
