Mary Gene Barbera, 89, of Charlottesville, VA passed away surrounded by loved ones on April 22, 2021. Mary was born on October 3, 1931 to Charles H. and Clara Gene Finch in Memphis, TN. Growing up she lived in Conchas Dam, NM, Little Rock, AR and finally Washington, D.C. where she graduated from H.S. Besides being a devoted wife, Mary dedicated her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother. She was always her children's biggest fan and supported their passions and pursuits. She and her husband, Anthony, enjoyed collecting all manner of things, especially clocks. They passed on this love to at least 2 of their children. Mary was passionate about gardening and loved to see the many colors of her azaleas blooming in the spring. She was an avid reader, read all the Harry Potter books and saw the movies several times. But John Wayne movies were her favorites. Mary had a happy nature, kind loving spirit and was a joy to be around. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed. Mary was predeceased by her parents, husband, Anthony F. and brother, Charles Richard Finch. She is survived by her 4 children John Barbera, Gloria Petrul, Charles Barbera, Toni Lockhart and son-in-law Michael Lockhart. She also leaves behind 6 grandchildren John, Marlo, Alexandra, Andrew, Tessa, Shannon and 2 great grandchildren Beckley and Memphis. A private celebration of life will be held to remember Mary.
