IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marjorie Ann
Pyne
July 9, 1943 – March 1, 2026
Funeral Service
Alum Springs Baptist Church
Starts at 1:00 pm (Eastern time)
Marjorie “Margie” Ann Pyne, 82, of Fredericksburg, VA, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at her residence. She was born on July 9, 1943, in Ithica, NY, to the late Floyd Bowman and Charlotte Reynolds Bowman.
Marjorie “Margie” was born in Upstate New York where her father worked as a migrant fruit harvester and farmer. In her early years, she and her family traveled across many states following the harvest seasons. As a teenager, they eventually settled in Remington, Virginia, where she would plant her own lasting roots.
In early February 1961, while helping on a farm in Elkwood, Margie witnessed a young man herding cattle. Unhappy with the way he was using a stick as help, she informed him if she ever saw that again she would take the stick to him. Two weeks later, on February 17th, they were married. He was simply the love of her life. They worked side by side and built their family over the next 38 years until he was taken home on September 30, 1999.
Margie’s formal education was cut short when she had to leave school in the 10th grade. Though life required her to step away from the classroom, she never let go of her dream to finish what she started. In 2008, she met a dear friend, Janice Carpenter, who encouraged her to pursue literacy classes. With determination and courage, Margie accomplished her goal in 2009, proudly earning her GED at the age of 66, the oldest graduate in her class. It was one of her greatest personal achievements and a testament to her belief that it is never too late to follow your dreams.
Margie devoted her life to her family as a stay-at-home mother and a trusted childcare provider. Over the years, she lovingly cared for countless children from across Culpeper. To many, she was more than a babysitter, she was a second mother, a safe place, and a steady source of comfort. The children she nurtured grew up carrying fond memories of time spent in her home, memories they continue to cherish and share.
She was an avid reader who could often be found with a book in hand, and she never missed a Hallmark movie. She loved baking, especially during the holidays. Every Christmas, family and friends eagerly awaited her famous sugar cookies, a sweet tradition that brought joy year after year.
Above all else, Margie’s greatest passion was children. It did not matter whose child they were because every child was welcomed into her home and into her heart. Her warmth, patience, and unwavering love created a place where everyone felt safe and valued.
Margie’s legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, the children she helped raise, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
She is survived by children, James I. Pyne, Jr. (Barbara), Ronald E. Pyne (Angie), Patricia A. Giles (Steve), Rebecca L. Jenkins (Doug), and Tara E. Pyne (Greg Washington); her grandchildren, Christopher Estes (Lisa), Jeremy Pyne (Kristina), CJ Pauley (Angie), Ronnie Pyne (Seana), Tim Pyne (Kristen), Tabitha Riley (Robbie), Brandon Giles (Tina), Robbie Giles (Alicia), DJ Jenkins (Mary Jo), Jaime Gibson (Jonae), and MadyKaye Gibson (Trenton); 25 great grandchildren; her granddog, Dolly Mae; her sister-in-law, Golda Frazier; her granddaughter-in-law, Marty Pyne; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
The family would like to acknowledge “her girls”, Kimmie (Brown) Allen, Carmen Rabago, and Autumn Smith for always checking in on Mom.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Irvel Pyne Sr., and her grandchildren, JW Pyne II, and Ashley Pauley.
A service to honor Margie’s life will be held on March 14, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Alum Springs Baptist Church, 11058 Dutch Hollow Rd, Culpeper, VA 22701, with Rev. John Miller officiating.
