Leon Franklin Bailey, age 87, of Harrisonburg, passed away January 4, 2025 at Bellaire at Stoneport. Born August 25, 1937, to the late George and Virginia Bailey, Leon was the oldest of five siblings (Leon, Robert, Jim, Richard and Linda). In 1960, he married Janet Ann Felt who preceded him in death on May 12, 2024. Together, in addition to raising their family, they enjoyed owning and operating Harrisonburg Garden Center and The Gazebo from 1975-1991. Leon also had a long 20-year career working for Dunham-Bush in Harrisonburg. Leon had two favorite hobbies which he enjoyed sharing with everyone. He restored, by hand, a 1928 Chevy, and proudly showed it off driving around town and at various car shows. He also meticulously hand-carved and painted life-like wooden ducks, and won many prizes for his workmanship. Leon is survived by his daughter, Cindi (Bob) Smead, and son, Andrew (Michelle) Bailey. As well as his grandchildren, Sarah (Jordan) Cassell, Matthew (Christina) Smead and Joshua (Carly) Smead, and many great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Ondricek. Leon was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Lee Bailey. Family will receive friends for a Remembrance Gathering from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025 in the Bridgewater Room at Bellaire at Stoneport in Harrisonburg. A private interment will be held at a later date.
