Katherine Lori Lawson, 54, of Stanardsville, VA, passed away with family by her side, on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. She was born on November 21, 1971, in Richmond, VA, to the late Roger Ebert and Brenda Perkins.

Lori was a beautiful soul whose quiet strength and gentle spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She faced life with courage, grace, and a resilience that inspired all around her.

For many years, Lori bravely battled MELAS, meeting each challenge with remarkable determination. Through it all, she never complained. Instead, she carried herself with dignity, strength, and an unwavering positivity that defined her character.

Lori found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved getting lost in a good book, spending peaceful hours reading and reflecting. She was a devoted football fan, especially when cheering on her beloved Miami Dolphins. Game days brought her excitement and something to look forward to each season, and she loved to cook for those occasions, preparing delicious meals to share with family and friends. Cooking was more than a hobby for Lori, it was passion. She proudly catered for many years, blessing countless gatherings with her talent and delicious cuisine. She also enjoyed her favorite soap operas, delighting in the drama and excitement they brought to her days.

Above all, Lori will be remembered for her warm heart, her beautiful spirit, and the courage with which she lived her life. Her strength in the face of adversity was extraordinary, and her legacy is one of perseverance, grace, and quiet bravery.

She leaves behind cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Lori’s light will never fade; it will continue to shine in the lives she touched so deeply.

Lori is survived by her loving husband, Dennis Lawson; her Aunt Laura Herring, Uncle Larry Herring and Aunt Margaret Himes; her best friends, Rebecca Pratt, Cindy Purvis, Debbie Espisito, and Darlene Verrell; 32 nieces and nephews; and numerous loving cousins, extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Uncle Bill Himes and her beloved dog, Lucy.
