John William Schoeb Sr.

John “Jack” William Schoeb Sr., 94, formerly of Petersburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, at his residence in Charlottesville. Born July 16, 1931, he graduated from Petersburg High School, completed a postgraduate year at St. Christopher’s School, attended Duke University, and earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Richmond. Jack served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954 and later in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1956 to 1959. He enjoyed a successful career as an inventor and superintendent with Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation in Petersburg.

A dedicated community leader, Jack served two terms on the Petersburg School Board, was a Deacon at Second Presbyterian Church, and was active in BPO Elks Lodge No. 237, American Legion Post No. 284, and served as president of POST C of TPA, the Will Rogers Tent of Saints & Sinners of America, and People Against Crime. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Elizabeth J. Schoeb; his parents, John and Ethel Schoeb; and other cherished friends and family members. He is survived by his children, John (Jennifer) and Abby (Frederick); grandsons Alexander, Brandon, Christopher (Catherine), and Zachary; and great-grandson Benedict.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 29, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, Petersburg, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Interment of Jack and Liz will be at 3:00 p.m. at Amelia Veterans Cemetery.
