Joan Darnell Tyree, of Staunton, Virginia died on June 12, 2023, at the Hospice House of the Piedmont. Born February 26, 1958, in Charlottesville, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Emmitt Lewis Tyree and Ruby Lucille Tyree. She was also preceded in death by her biological mother Carolyn Juanita Roberts; one sister Becky Sue Roberts; and one niece Theresa Darnell Beverly. Joan was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and sister. She would have given her life for any one of them. She adored spending time with all her family. She enjoyed cooking for them and creating her own dishes. She had a love for nature and all the beauty it has to offer. Fall was her favorite season, watching all of nature change. She had a passion for birds and bird watching, especially Cardinals. Before moving to Staunton, she spent many years in Lovingston, VA, and was very proud of her heritage and connection to the Schulyer, VA community where she was raised. Joan is survived by her children; her daughter, Stephanie Lynn Davis (Lee); her son, Michael Joseph Gentry, Jr.(Karla); sisters, Joyce Ann Roberts, and Brenda Marie Beverly; grandchildren, Jasmine Fleming, Kieonna Fleming, Dominique Fleming, Danielle Fleming, Aaron Zimmer, Casey Johnson, and Megan Gentry; great grandchild, Shelby Johnson; nieces, Ashley Roberts, Amber Roberts, Jaylen Roberts, and Jackie Page; nephews, Troy Beverly, and Christopher Graves; and a host of other family members and friends. The family would like to express a special thanks to her caregiver, Jasmine, the staff at Hospice of the Piedmont Northridge, and Hospice House for their exceptional care. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
