James Lee Lowry, Jr., affectionately known as "Timmy," 62, of Scottsville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was born on February 8, 1964, in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Timmy spent his childhood in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and returned to Virginia at the age of 18, settling in the Charlottesville area. A talented and dedicated painter, he spent many years painting homes throughout the region. His exceptional craftsmanship earned him numerous awards and blue ribbons, a testament to both his skill and pride in his work.

Timmy had a deep love for football and was a lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Eagles. He never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite team. He also enjoyed watching his favorite television show, Gunsmoke, and found great satisfaction in spending time outdoors doing yard work. Whether listening to music while working outside or relaxing with a cold beer on a Friday afternoon, Timmy appreciated life's simple pleasures.

More than anything, Timmy will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his easygoing spirit, and the joy he found in the everyday moments spent with family and friends. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. As those closest to him often said, "This is not goodbye. It's see you later." Though he will be deeply missed, his loved ones find comfort in knowing that he is "as free as a bird now."

Timmy is survived by his lifelong partner, Brenda Payne; his mother, Michele Lowry; his brother, Allen Lowry (Lori); his sisters, Betty Lowry and Tammy (Mike); his daughters, Sandra Childers (Richard) and Tabbatha Payne (Jimmy); his grandchildren, Cody Allen Childers (Lauren), Brittney Louise Childers (Nathan), Jared Dwayne Childers (Taylor), Hailey Montana Payne (Timmy), Jayden Matthew Payne (Deja), and Aubrey Rayne Ferguson; and his great-grandchildren, Taydem Marie Childers, Myles Allen Childers, Wesley Wade Reese Faircloth, and one great-grandson on the way. Known affectionately as “Pop Pop” to his grandchildren, Timmy cherished every moment spent with them. He is also survived by multiple nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Lee Lowry, Sr.; his sister, Renee Norford; and his grandson, Jacob Daley Childers.

Services to honor Timmy will be private.
