James Franklin Collings Jr., 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 23, 2024, in Culpeper, Virginia, surrounded by family. He was born on April 17, 1942, in Laporte, Indiana, to the late Lydia and James Collings Sr. James was a handyman and took immense pride in his welding work and doing small engine repairs. In his free time, he loved perusing yard sales and flea markets, trying his hand at gambling, and fishing. He also enjoyed barbequing and a good fish fry. He is survived by his sisters, Cora Nemeth, Elmie Goodson, and Denise Coleman; sons, James F Collings III (Teresa), Gregory D Collings (Dawn), Troy D Collings (Deborah), and Stacey L Collings; daughters, Katerina J Bell (Kent), and Tammy M Humphrey (Sam); stepdaughter, Dawn McCarty (Timothy); ex-wife, Kay Bruens; grandchildren, James F Collings IV, Amanda Paschen, Samantha Collings, Paul Collings, Steven Collings, Cody Collings, Danielle Barone, Kyle Barone, Tera Goldt, Kyle Bell, Brittany Penrod, Victor Collings, Katlyn Collings, Josephine Collings-Timbers, Charles Humphrey, Desiree Dolgos, Cheyenne Humphrey, Jacob Collings, Ryan Collings, Aaron Collings, Travis McCarty, and Dana McCarty; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a beloved dog, Oprah. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, E.A. Walsh-Collings; sisters, Elsie Heimer, Patricia Padgett, and Annette Tripp; stepsons, Terry Walsh, and Donald Walsh; grandson, Trey Bell; and nephew, Dennis Tripp. Above all else, James loved his family and spending time with them. He was a great son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He had a zest for life, and even enjoyed being ornery. His laugh was infectious and could fill a room. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of life for James will be held at the residence of Dawn and Timothy McCarty, at a future date.
