Hilary Browne Fitzpatrick, 73, of Charlottesville, Virginia, formerly from Lawrence, New York, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on September 29, 2025. She was born on July 23, 1952, in Oceanside, New York, to the late Peter Carroll and Lillian Jean Browne. Hilary spent her childhood exploring the marshes of Long Island alongside her five siblings. A graduate of the Oak Grove School in Vassalboro, Maine, she married Michael J. Fitzpatrick, a Long Island police officer, in 1976. They raised their two daughters, Caitlin and Joanne, on Long Island before settling in Earlysville, Virginia in 1995. Hilary found great joy in nature, spending much time digging in the dirt of her flower and herb gardens. A keen birdwatcher, she delighted in observing cardinals at her feeders and herons along the shorelines. She was skilled in needlepoint, crocheting, and knitting, creating handmade gifts for many. She enjoyed hand-sewing her daughters' Halloween costumes and baking hundreds of Christmas cookies each holiday season to share with family and friends. Hilary was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Jean, and by her husband of 37 years, Michael. She is survived by her daughters: Joanne Thompson, her husband Matthew and their three boys, Mackeon, Holden and Finnegan; Caitlin Palmer, her husband Jonathan and their two children, Aubrey and Riley; her siblings: Pamela Kruger, Peter (Megan) Browne, Prudence Purcell (Charles Cundari), Curtis (Jodie) Browne and Deirdre Browne (Alan Estep); by their children, Hil's many beloved nieces and nephews; and her partner for the last 10 years, Nicholas Munger. Hilary's radiant smile will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A small celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and friends. The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the doctors and staff of Sentara Martha Jefferson Cancer Center as well as the wonderful nurses and staff of Hospice of the Piedmont; and all the family and friends who have shown their love and support through the years.
