Gene Franklin Blankenbaker, age 68, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at his home in Madison, Virginia, with his loving family by his side. Born on July 12, 1956, to the late Bernard and Leona Blankenbaker, Gene was a devoted family man, a hardworking provider, and a quiet hero to those who knew him best. He spent 45 years working as a skilled butcher, beginning his career at King Market and retiring from Food Lion. In addition to his profession, Gene was deeply committed to public service, volunteering for over a decade with the Madison County Volunteer Rescue Squad, where he also served as a valued board member. A proud outdoorsman, Gene found great joy in the simple pleasures of life-especially mowing his lawn, a task he embraced with pride and care. He loved being outside, but nothing brought him more happiness than spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren. Gene is survived by his daughters, Loni Blankenbaker and Kara Blackwell; his beloved grandchildren, Brycyn Madison, Ariella Peyton, and Emmalena Peyton; and a very special granddaughter, Emily Powell. He also leaves behind a host of in-laws who were like family, extended relatives, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife of over 40 years, Jodi Marston Blankenbaker; his brother, Henry Blankenbaker; and his parents-in-law, Charles and Kitty Marston. His legacy of love, dedication, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
