Obituary

In Loving Memory of Gayle Irene Driessen, October 6, 1949 - September 26, 2024 It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gayle Irene Driessen, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Gayle passed away peacefully on September 26, 2004, in Culpeper, Virginia, after a courageous battle with Stage Four Lung Cancer. She was 74 years old. Born on October 6, 1949, in Washington D.C., Gayle was the cherished daughter of Joyce and Eugene Talbert. She spent her formative years in Prince Georges County, Maryland, where she graduated from Mount Calvary Grade School and Suitland High School. Her education laid the foundation for a fulfilling career as a Cancer Registrar, contributing her expertise to numerous hospitals in the D.C./Baltimore Metropolitan area. Her dedication to her work and the communities she served was unwavering. To those who knew her, Gayle was a woman of remarkable character. She possessed a magnetic personality, capable of charming the socks off anyone she met. Her strength, independence, and pride were evident in everything she did. Gayle found joy in the simple pleasures of life: she loved shopping, chatting on the phone, researching her family history, and spending time at the beach. These hobbies brought her immense happiness and allowed her to forge deep connections with those around her. Gayle's legacy lives on through her loving family. She is survived by her daughter, Nicole Driessen, and her son, Brent Driessen. She was the proud grandmother of Nathaniel Driessen and his wife Courtney, Jadalen Driessen, and Treyton Driessen. Her great-grandchildren, D'Angelo Engles and Isaiah Engles, will carry forward her spirit. Gayle is also remembered by her siblings: John Talbert (Darlene), Dick Talbert (Clare), Mary Biederman (preceded in death by Bob Biederman), and Bob Talbert (Carla), as well as many other loved ones who were fortunate to have shared in her life. A private funeral service will be held to honor Gayle's memory, respecting her wishes and the intimate nature of her family's grief. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Autism Society of America, an organization close to Gayle's heart. As we say goodbye to Gayle Irene Driessen, we remember a woman who was not only personable and charming but also a beacon of strength and independence. Her legacy of love, dedication, and resilience will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace, Gayle.
