Gary Scott Parkhill, age 59, of Earlysville, VA died on April 26, 2024, with his family at his side. Gary was born on May 8, 1964, in New Kensington, PA to James and Louise Parkhill. Gary appreciated good music, a clever prank, fast cars, and a quality cigar. Whether sitting around a fire pit, sharing a meal, or relaxing at the beach his favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends. Gary was a 1982 graduate of Highlands High School in Natrona Heights, PA. After a few years sampling various vocations, Gary took a job with a small start-up company that had partnered with ALCOA at their Technical Center in Upper Burrell, PA. That company, Biotage, was an opportunity for Gary to learn and flourish. As the company grew, he took the reins of their manufacturing operations and helped to position the company well in the market. Biotage was also the driver behind moving to Charlottesville, VA with his wife, Vanessa. They quickly fell in love with Central Virginia and put down roots in Earlysville, VA. In addition to his professional growth, Gary made many lifelong friends at Biotage. With quality experience under his belt, Gary went on to pursue independent and collaborative projects in and around Charlottesville. Those included Worrell Water Technologies and Locus Health. Most recently Gary was the Director of Operations with Lohmann Corporation in Orange, VA. It was during his time with Lohmann that he was diagnosed with cancer. His work family partnered with his friends and family at home to support him through his efforts to live well while managing the disease for over two years. In addition to his professional endeavors, Gary was involved with Central Virginia Pop Warner and Northside Baseball. In later years he could often be found watching his children play lacrosse or football from his favorite spot leaning on the fence around the field at Albemarle High School or St Anne's Belfield. He enjoyed cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also spent over 20 years supporting the operations at Chi Omega sorority house at the University of Virginia. Gary was a loving and supportive husband to his wife Vanessa through just shy of 34 years of marriage. He was a proud father to Elizabeth (aka Beth Ann) and Lee. He was a loyal friend to many in Charlottesville, the Pittsburgh area, and those now scattered across the country. Gary is survived by his wife, Vanessa; daughter, Elizabeth Parkhill of Charlottesville, VA; son, Lee Parkhill of Raleigh, NC; mother, Louise Parkhill of Cheswick, PA; father, James Parkhill (Tina) of Fawn Twp, PA; brother, Eric Parkhill (Lisa) of Sarver, PA; nephews, Matthew Parkhill and Danny Parkhill; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
