Gail Bright Jenkins

November 18, 1956 — May 27, 2026

Charlottesville, Virginia

Gail Bright Jenkins, 69, of Charlottesville, VA, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at her residence. She was born on November 18, 1956, in Richmond, VA, to the late Robert and Mary Bright.

Gail never met a stranger and if she did, they probably got teased within five minutes. Known for her quick wit, smack talk, and unforgettable sense of humor, Gail had a way of making people laugh even on their hardest days. She could roast you and hug you in the same breath, and somehow you always walked away feeling more loved than ever.

Behind the jokes was the biggest heart imaginable. Gail loved deeply, forgave easily, and never believed in holding grudges. To know her was to know acceptance, kindness, and unconditional love. She had a gift for collecting people, especially kids who needed guidance, encouragement, or simply someone to believe in them. Over the years, she became “Mom” to so many, helping to keep them on the right path, cheering them on through life, and making sure nobody ever felt alone.

Gail loved fiercely and without limits. Her favorite saying, “I love you to the moon and back,” wasn’t just something she said, it was how she lived every single day.

Her laughter, her sass, and her endless love will be missed more than words can say, but the lives she touched will carry her spirit forward forever.

She is survived by her husband, Lorenzo Jenkins; her children, John Wright (Amy), Brandy Gentry (Todd), Mandy Davis (Danny), and Deborah “Paige” Wright (Ray); her sister, Connie Sheldon (Joe); her grandchildren, Damein Davis, Carmen Davis, Mary-Jane Gentry, Mariska Gentry, Mason Wright, Devlin Gentry, Isabella Davis, Raven Wright, and Phoenix Wright; her best friend and adopted son, Dusty Kingrea; a special niece, Cyndi Wells and her husband, Mike, and their three children, Forrest, Chase, and Savannah; all of the “McDonald’s kids from Powhatan; and numerous extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Joseph Bright and Teresa Jones; and her grandson, John Wright, Jr.

A service to celebrate Gail’s life is being planned for a later date.
