Emma Elizabeth Carden, 81, went home to be with Jesus on February 14, 2026. Emma was born on September 13, 1944, in Charlottesville Virginia to Mattie Virginia Ferneyhough and Ivan J. Peters. Emma married the love of her life, Howard Carden, on June 7, 1962. They moved to Savannah Georgia while Howard served in the US Army. Once back in Charlottesville, Emma began a career in accounting working for many years at Piedmont Tractor Company, Northside Baptist Church and Jefferson Area Board for Aging where she retired. She enjoyed her retirement years spending time with her kids and grandchildren, traveling and visiting with her friends. She also faithfully supported her local church and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which held a special place in her heart.
Emma was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Howard, and many other family members.
She is survived by her daughter Anne Bleck and her husband Ed, her son Eddie Carden and his wife Holly, four grandchildren, Courtney Walker and her husband Mark, Tanner O’Brien, Trenton Carden, Marlaina Carden, and three great grandchildren, Kinsley Walker, Ashby Walker and Carson Walker. She also leaves behind many other special family members and friends whom she loved dearly.
We will all miss her greatly, but we know because of the hope of Jesus Christ we will see her again one day.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Northside Baptist Church, 1325 E. Rio Road, Charlottesville, VA with Pastor Keith Johnson officiating. Visitation will begin at 10am followed by the service at 11am.
