Obituary

Dennis "Big D" Engle, 51, of Ruckersville, passed away peacefully at the Hospice of the Piedmont -Center for Acute Hospice Care in Charlottesville, VA on August 13, 2024, with his sister by his side. Born in Hazard, KY on June 11, 1973, to Margaret Hall Vogel and the late Harrison Engle. Dennis is survived by his mother, Margaret Vogel of Charlottesville, VA, his son Dylan "Little D" Engle of Charlottesville, VA, who he loved dearly, brother Bige (Julie) Engle of St. Augustine, FL, sisters, Sharon (Mike) Engle of Ruckersville, VA, Joanne (Clint) Dormain of Slidell, LA, and Karen Rainey of TX, who he reconnected with in the recent years. He is also survived by several nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, and one great great nephew; two aunts, two uncles and several cousins. In addition to family, Dennis is survived by many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Harrison Engle, a brother, Michael Engle, step- father Frank Vogel and special nephew Jacob Engle. Dennis was a graduate of William Monroe High School in Stanardsville, VA. Following graduation he joined the US Army. After his time in the Army, he worked in the auto industry until his health would no longer allow him to work. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and just hanging out with friends and family, especially his son, Dylan, watching sports and attending sporting events. His time with Dylan was limited but he cherished every moment. He loved Dylan dearly and was very proud of him. Dennis never met a stranger; he could carry on a conversation with anyone and was well liked and loved by many. Dennis is now at peace with no more struggles and pain. The family will be forever grateful for the love and care that he received at the Hospice of the Piedmont - Center for Acute Hospice Care. The family is also grateful to Pastor Josh Shifflett and friend Neil Williams for the calls and visits prior to Dennis' passing. There will be no formal service at this time. Upon the passing of Dennis' mother, Margaret, his remains will be placed with hers and they will be laid to rest together, as he was always her baby.
