David Holly Patton, 73, of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2023, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. David was born in Endicott, New York on December 5, 1949, to Roland and Anita Patton. He attended Union Endicott High School and Orange County Community College where he played tennis, baseball, football, and wrestled. He was also a member of the high school chorus and played trombone in the band. David met Susan, his wife of 44 years, in Pulaski, Virginia where they both worked at Pulaski Community Hospital. David continued a committed career as a Respiratory Therapist for 50 years. His last 30 years were devoted to the University of Virginia Medical Center, where he retired in 2020. After meeting his wife, David found faith and chose to walk with God through the rest of his days and was baptized in Claytor Lake in Pulaski, Virginia. David was his children's biggest supporter in everything they did. He learned balloon animal art and became "Pop-O the Clown" for his own children's enjoyment and later continued the entertainment for local parties, businesses, and festivals throughout the state. More than anything he loved watching his children play soccer. He rarely missed a game and was committed to helping them learn and grow throughout their sports careers. He enjoyed watching college sports too, and frequently supported UVA athletics such as soccer, lacrosse, and baseball. David had a passion for great food, but above all else were his "Spiedies", a meat kabob dish local to his hometown, that he had perfected and introduced to all friends and family here in Virginia. David is survived by his wife Susan; his three children, Erin Cummings (husband Corey) and their son Avett of Barboursville, Kyle Patton (wife Ashley Joost) of London, England, and Bret Patton (wife Melissa) of Ruckersville. David is also survived by many loving extended family members. A special thank you to Dr. Tri Le and nurse Michelle Colley of UVA Cancer Center for their outstanding care and compassion throughout David's treatment. The family will be planning a celebration of life in the coming weeks.
