Charles Francis Breeden, affectionately known as "Goodtime Charlie", passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1st, 2025, at the age of 86, at the Hospice of the Piedmont Center for Acute Hospice Care in Charlottesville, Virginia, with his family by his side. Born on July 5th, 1938, in Albemarle County, Virginia, to the late John Irvin and Nancy Jane Powell Breeden, Charlie's journey through life was marked by a love of family, music, the outdoors, and a simple yet profound faith in God. Charlie was born and raised in the Eastham and Stony Point areas of Albemarle County, where he developed a deep love for the outdoors and his local community. After a time in College Park, Maryland, where he raised a family of five children, Charlie moved to Missouri before eventually returning to his beloved home state of Virginia. He settled in Gordonsville, where he made his final home and continued to enjoy the things he loved most. A man of many talents, Charlie was a self-taught artist in both painting and woodworking. He took immense pride in his craft, creating works that reflected his creativity and love for the process. Music was another of Charlie's great joys. He was an accomplished self-taught musician, playing the harmonica, guitar, and banjo with ease and joy. Known as "Goodtime Charlie," he brought a sense of fun and cheer to everyone around him with his music. Whether strumming a tune in his living room or playing for family and friends, Charlie's music was a reflection of his vibrant spirit. An avid gardener, Charlie spent countless hours tending to his plants and enjoying the beauty of nature. His love for the outdoors was evident in the care he gave to his garden. He found peace and satisfaction in the simple pleasures of life. Charlie was also a deeply spiritual man who believed that God sent His son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. In his final days, he found comfort in sharing his faith and his beliefs with those around him, bringing a sense of peace to his family and friends. Charlie is survived by his five children, Danny Allen Breeden, Charlie Frank Breeden (wife, Betty), Bruce Wayne Breeden, Brenda Sue Duty (husband, Terry), and Charlotte Ann Breeden; twelve grandchildren, including six grandsons and six granddaughters; twelve great grandchildren; and siblings, Albert, Edward, Barbara, and Louise. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by siblings, Leonard, Cecil, Mildred, and Ruby. Charlie's legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. His music, kindness, and unwavering faith will never be forgotten, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
