Chanethoon Sysaath died on September 12, 2024. She was born in Paksong, Laos on July 12, 1964 to Chai Sysaath and Samniang Sysaath Nouanesengsy. She came to the United States in 1987, living for a short time in Texas and California, before moving to Harrisonburg, VA in 1989. Chanethoon was well known in her community for her abundant garden, especially her hot peppers. She was a generous person who enjoyed sharing her flowers, garden produce and Lao food, especially egg rolls. Chanethoon loved Jesus. She was baptized at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church in June 2012. She was an enthusiastic member of Lao Christajak and the Lao Sunday afternoon Bible Study group. She is survived by her mother, Samniang, her two sons, Jeff Sysaath of Harrisonburg and Andy Sysaath, stationed with the United States Army in Hohenfels, Germany, and their father, Phet Phet. Two sisters also survive, Phayboon Jones and Konthay Adams of Pearcy, Arkansas, as well as a half-sister, Rattanapong Pinson of Frisco, Texas. Also, surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, her son, Johnny Sysaath and two brothers, Viengnar Sysaath and Diamond Sysaath. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 26 at 11 am at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church (1552 S. High Street, Harrisonburg, VA 22801).
