Carmen S. Trueheart

Carmen S. Trueheart, 75, of Charlottesville, VA, passed peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at her residence. She was born on April 18, 1951, in Canada to the late Pierrette Gunde.

Carmen was a compassionate soul whose love for animals defined much of her life. Throughout her adult years, she devoted herself to rescuing, nurturing, and caring for countless dogs, giving them the love, comfort, and second chances they deserved. Her gentle heart and unwavering dedication left a lasting impact on every animal fortunate enough to cross her path.

A creative spirit, Carmen found joy in a variety of arts and crafts. She especially loved jewelry making, channeling her imagination and artistic talent into beautiful handmade creations. She also enjoyed painting and other creative pursuits that allowed her to express her unique perspective and appreciation for beauty.

In her earlier years, Carmen was an avid cyclist who embraced the competitive spirit of racing. Whether exploring new paths or enjoying familiar routes, her adventurous nature brought her peace, happiness, and a deep connection to the world around her. She will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, generosity, and the love she shared with both people and animals throughout her life.

She is survived by her devoted husband of over 25 years, James “Jim” Trueheart; her brother, Hansel Smollich; her stepsister, Analisa Smollich; and the many beloved pets she cherished throughout her life.

A service to celebrate and remember Carmen’s life was held privately.
