IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Angel
Welland
November 3, 1975 – March 17, 2026
Angel Welland, 50, of Troy, VA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the University of Virginia Medical Center. She was born on November 3, 1975, in Bonners Ferry, ID, to Louise Mills and the late Anthony Mills.
Angel was born in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she developed a deep love for learning, service, and creativity that would shape the course of her life.
As a young woman, Angel served a religious mission in Italy for just over a year. During that time, she touched countless lives through quiet acts of service, kindness, and compassion. The people of Italy left a lasting imprint on her heart, and the experiences she gained there became a cherished and defining part of who she was.
Following her mission, Angel married David Welland, a proud U.S. Army soldier, and together they built a life rooted in love, resilience, and mutual support.
Angel was remarkably accomplished and intellectually gifted, pursuing education across a wide range of disciplines. She first earned a degree in culinary arts and went on to work as a pastry chef in a five-star restaurant, where her creativity and precision shone. Her passion for knowledge led her further, achieving advanced studies in both English and History, with a particular focus on English and Russian history. In addition, she developed a successful career as a computer programmer and web designer, working as a full-stack developer with both technical expertise and artistic vision.
Beyond her professional achievements, Angel was a devoted advocate for individuals with disabilities and those suffering from rare diseases. Her empathy and determination made her a voice for those often unheard.
Angel also possessed extraordinary artistic talents. She was a master craftsman in the delicate and increasingly rare art of fine lace-making, preserving a tradition that requires both patience and exceptional skill. She had a deep love for the fine arts, especially classic cinema, and held an encyclopedic knowledge of old films. When she spoke about them, she brought their stories and characters vividly to life.
She dreamed of traveling the world, meeting new people, experiencing different cultures, and continuing to learn from the beauty and diversity of humanity.
Though her life was tragically shortened by illness, cutting short what would have undoubtedly been an extraordinary and far-reaching career, Angel turned her focus even more deeply toward the people she loved. She dedicated herself to her family and friends, always putting others first and offering unwavering encouragement, warmth, and support.
Angel will be remembered as a deeply compassionate, caring soul and someone who lived her faith not through words alone, but through action, love, and quiet service. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, uplifted, and inspired.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving husband, David Welland; her son Parker, and daughter Elena.
Per her wishes, Angel’s service will be held privately for immediate family; however, condolences shared in the guest book are warmly welcomed.
