Mary Kinzie Inge

Mary Eliza (Kinzie) Inge passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2025. She spent her last days and weeks surrounded by loved ones and dear friends. Family: Mary is survived by her husband of 51 years, Malcolm Inge. Together they raised three daughters: Leanne Inge (Daniel Maupin), Jessica James (Will), and Taylor Walsh (Tom). The delight of Mary's life were her grandchildren: Penelope Maupin, Gabriel Maupin, Eliza James, Josie James, and Natalie Walsh. Mary was born in India on November 6, 1951, the daughter of two Church of the Brethren Missionaries, William Kinzie and Pauline (Garst) Kinzie. She is survived by two brothers: William "Bill" (Lib) Kinzie and Michael "Mike" (Vicki) Kinzie. She joins two brothers in heaven: John (Joan) Kinzie and Alexander "Al" Kinzie. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and "GrandMary." Mary's family left India shortly after her birth and settled in West Virginia. After the passing of her father, she and her family relocated to Bridgewater, Virginia. Mary loved growing up in Bridgewater and attended Turner Ashby High School. Mary matriculated to Radford College where she met Malcolm while he was attending Virginia Tech. Upon graduating from Radford with her teaching license, she and Malcolm married soon after and relocated to Dayton, Virginia. Mary taught middle school home economics for several years. She had a short career in real estate before becoming a mother. She was blessed to stay home with her young children and care for aging parents. She became a devoted Girl Scout volunteer as a troop leader of several troops as well as serving in leadership roles within the local Service Unit. Once her daughters were in school, she began working for the Virginia Skyline Girl Scout Council where she made close lifelong friends. She re-entered the classroom after a 20 year hiatus as a high school home economics teacher. She taught for Albemarle County Public Schools for many years, and she had the pleasure of working alongside her daughter, Jessica, for several of them. The last part of her teaching career included teaching personal finance for Harrisonburg City Schools. When she retired from teaching, she quickly rejoined the profession as a highly respected substitute teacher in western Albemarle County. Mary was blessed to be a part of a special church community at Crozet Baptist Church. She shared many laughs, hugs, and tears with her Challengers Sunday School Class. Mary volunteered in the church nursery and held many leadership positions within her church community. Mary will be remembered for her love of snow, flowers, tea parties, and fine china. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 22 at 2:00 PM at Crozet Baptist Church- 5804 St George Ave, Crozet, VA 22932. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to the Crozet Baptist Church Benevolence Fund or Virginia Skyline Girl Scout Council.
